St Catherine's Chaplaincy

Introduction

This year St Catherine’s has a dedicated team of 16 pupil Chaplains who have a vital role to play in enhancing the Religious Life of our school.  Each of our Chaplains put themselves forward and are easily identified in school by their special Chaplaincy badge.  Our Pupil Chaplains work hard to promote our Catholic faith in school. They believe strongly that in everything they do, Chaplains put 'Jesus at the centre'.

The job of Pupil Chaplain has a very high profile in school and here are just some of the tasks these pupils carry out:

Meet our Chaplains

Creating Focal points for reflection areas

The Chaplains help to update the displays in the hall with the current value for each term. Also they will update the 'Readings of the Week' around the school on a weekly basis for every class to read during their meditation.

Representing St Catherine's

The Chaplains often represent our school at different events such as the Education Mass and Commissioning Service at Clifton Cathedral.

Writing and leading prayers

The Chaplains are involved in choosing hymns, prayers and readings for our school masses. For the Golden Jubilee Celebration Mass, the Chaplains wrote their own bidding prayers and read them in front of the Bishop.

Getting the Altar Ready for Mass

When our priest comes to visit St Catherine's, the Chaplains will help to set up the altar with the Liturgical colours to match the theme of the mass.

A Successful Chaplaincy Team...

As well as the jobs above, we also believe to be a successful chaplaincy team we need to:

  • Listen to each other’s ideas;
  • Communicate with all the team members, school and parish;
  • Encourage and include everyone when making decisions, to share their ideas and to try their best;
  • Lead by example, love everyone especially people you don’t get on with.

If you have any ideas that you wish to share with us then please let us know.

Chaplaincy Meetings

Every week, the Chaplaincy Team meet to review the action plan and consider different ways in which they are:

  • Strenghtening Mission
  • Deepening Prayer
  • Enabling Communion.

The meetings give a chance for every Chaplain to share their ideas and together we make decisions about how we can promote the Catholic ethos in the school.

During the meetings, Chaplains have the opportunity to: update prayers, plan events, update the website and make decisions about fundraising.
